Yes. Under the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020, all private landlords in England must have a valid Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) conducted every 5 years. Failure to provide a “Satisfactory” report can result in local authority fines of up to £30,000.

If “Code C1” (danger present) or “Code C2” (potentially dangerous) issues are found, the report is classified as “unsatisfactory.” Landlords must arrange for remedial work to be completed within 28 days (or 24 hours for C1 faults).
